Colored Schools, 1874-1904

After
the Freemen's Bureau closed, the Franklin County School Board and Black community churches began to open schools throughout the Black communities in Franklin County, Tennessee. Communities were located in:
- Winchester;
- Harmony/Broadview;
- Old Salem;
- Huntland;
- Center Grove;
- Capitol Hill;
- Alto;
- Cowan;
- Liberty;
- Sherwood;
- Sinking Cove;
- Estelle Springs;
- Sewanee;
- Belvidere;
- Await;
- Penile;
- Decherd;
- Anderson;
